Recently I have been thinking a lot about the suicide rate amongst teens and what leads them to the point where they feel like they can longer stay on this earth. I was watching a youtube documentary (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkAFY6y9SFo&t=3s) that followed a high school in Utah wherein 2017, 6 students committed suicide. In a school at that time that had 2,817 students not one person noticed anything, but again I can understand why it was so easy to go unnoticed. Suicide prevention is something I have felt really passionate about because I am tired of seeing young kids die because they feel like they don’t have a voice or are scared of the reaction of parents or peers if they use the little bit of sound that they have left. The age that these kids are committing suicide are getting younger and younger, I feel like as people we have to do more than give them a hotline to call or tell people who they can talk to. Some people need that extra push, for you to walk them to that guidance counselor or even just to listen to them. Believe it or not, some problems can be solved if we just listen and try to understand, and stop thinking that if you give people medicine than all issues would be solved. Medience can only do so much for some. I truly believe that medication can sometimes just suppress the emotion and only make that person feel better for that moment, now I'm not saying doctors should not prescribe antidepressants what I am trying to say is we should be more focused on helping people become independent when dealing with their emotions instead of dependent on something that could have some severe side effects.
